We have walked the same twelve miles of beach every morning from May through October since 1994. Volunteers mark the nests, relocate the ones that sit below the tide line, and stay with them through the hatch. Donations pay for permits, stakes and screening, and the two trucks that get us down the island before sunrise. Overhead here is thin. Most of us are retired and none of the patrol is paid.

Cape Fear Sea Turtle Hospital admits sick and injured sea turtles from the North Carolina coast — cold-stunned juveniles in January, boat strike and entanglement cases through the summer, and turtles carrying fibropapilloma tumors. We keep 24 rehabilitation tanks and a small surgical suite, and we return around 60 patients to the ocean in a normal year. Gifts fund veterinary care, tank filtration, and transport for turtles driven down to us from other states. Our most recent Form 990 and audited financials are posted under Financials.

we do nest surveys on the south end of the island plus the lighting ordinance work with the county, which honestly is most of what actually saves hatchlings. also run the school program in glynn county, 40ish classroom visits a year. small budget, three paid staff, everything else is volunteers. any amount helps. we are usually short in the fall once nesting season ends and the donations dry up.
